My Dukan Diet Diary – Week 1
So, my first week on the Dukan Diet plan has now come to an end and I thought I’d write a quick round up of my experience so far.
Given the seriously depressing amount of weight I need to lose (16kg, 2.5 stone) I thought I’d kick-start my weight loss with a full 7 days of Attack Phase which, as a reference for those who are not already familiar with the plan, means nothing but lean proteins.
Having done this phase already back in November last year, I was prepared and stocked up on all staple foods allowed during Attack: in a nutshell, eggs, yoghurt, fresh meat and fish, lean cooked meats, canned fish and plenty of herbs and spices to make my meals a little more interesting.
I stuck to 2 main meals everyday and at least 2 snacks, trying to vary what I was eating as much as possible, eating whenever I was hungry throughout the day and alternating meat and fish for dinner. I confess it hasn’t been easy and, despite being able to eat as much as I wanted, carb withdrawal were going strong, especially in the evening after dinner when I would have normally ended up pigging out on chocolate or ice cream *sigh*
When things got tough, I just kept reminding myself that, after all, the Attack Phase was only going to last a week and I would then be able to enjoy one of the things I truly missed the most: vegetables! And I am incredibly pleased to say my efforts have been rewarded…
This week’s stats:
Weight at the beginning of last week: 83.2kg (183.4lbs)
This week’s weight in: 80kg (176.3lbs)
Weekly result: -3.2kg (7lbs)
Weight loss to date: -3.2kg (7lbs)
Still to lose to reach target weight: 13kg (28.6lbs)
Star foods of Dukan Diet Week 1
- Hartley’s Sugar Free Jelly: I found out from various forums and websites that sugar free jelly is allowed, even during the Attack Phase. Well, let me tell you, this was a real treat when I needed a sweet pick me up during the week!
- Coke Zero: Following the instructions on the Dukan Diet book, I stocked up on Coke Zero before starting the Attack Phase and the fizzy stuff kept me going throughout the day making me feel full and curbing my cravings for sweet foods.
Overall, this first week of Dukan has been a real success and I am feeling much better already. Not only do I feel less bloated, but I am finding that my energy levels have increased dramatically. Thankfully, there’s no sign of one of the most common side effects of this diet – constipation – as the daily allowance of oat bran seems to do the trick.
I wish my weight loss would carry on at this rate but I am aware things are likely to slow down next week when I go onto the Cruise Phase and re-introduce vegetables on alternate days. This is why I have decided it’s time to increase my exercise levels so going to the gym and using my Nintendo Wii Fit is on the cards…
